About the Firm
In 1951 Laurence W. Perry moved to Smithers, British Columbia, to start a law practice and a family. He had served in the Merchant Marines during WW II and obtained a law degree after the War ended. He was a third generation lawyer: his father Reginald R. Perry, had practised in Armstrong and Salmon Arm, British Columbia, and his grandfather, William C. Perry, had practised in Mt. Forest, Ontario. Laurence continued practising at 1081 Main Street until 1994, although he had transferred ownership of the firm to his son, John L. Perry, in 1979. He passed away in 2010. Various other Perrys have been involved with the firm over the years, including Barb Perry, a great-granddaughter of William C. Perry, who was office administrator and bookkeeper for over 30 years until her retirement in 2011, and Dale E. Perry, a nephew to Laurence and cousin to John, who has been a partner since 1994. More recently we have reached outside the family for expertise, with Sean E. Rowell, who has been one of our lawyers since 2006, becoming a partner in 2011. Brooke Haberstock joined us in 2019 after articling in the Lower Mainland and Morven Burch came along in 2020. We have managed to recruit more Perrys as well though: John’s son, Lane, came onboard in 2020.
We survived an office fire in 2013 and moved to our beautiful new building at 3875 Broadway Avenue in 2015.
As a firm, we provide legal services in most areas of law, but each lawyer has preferred areas of practice. In addition, we have different departments with staff who may be able to assist you quickly or will refer you to the appropriate lawyer if not. We have provided information on our lawyers under “Our Team” and more general contact information under “Contact Us” on this site.
