We group this type of work together for simplicity but it actually covers two areas of law: “Estates”, which involves assisting executors, administrators and beneficiaries after a death, and “Estate Planning”
In 1951 Laurence W. Perry moved to Smithers, British Columbia, to start a law practice and a family. He had served in the Merchant Marines during WW II and obtained a law degree after the War ended. He was a third generation lawyer: his father Reginald R. Perry, had practiced in Armstrong and Salmon Arm, British Columbia, and his grandfather, William C. Perry, had practiced in Mt. Forest, Ontario. Laurence continued practicing at 1081 Main Street until 1994, although he had transferred ownership of the firm to his son, John L. Perry, in 1979. He passed away in 2010. Various other Perrys have been involved with the firm over the years, including Barb Perry, a great-granddaughter of William C. Perry, who was office administrator and bookkeeper for over 30 years until her retirement in 2011, and Dale E. Perry, a nephew to Laurence and cousin to John, who has been a partner since 1994. Most recently we have reached outside the family for expertise, with Sean E. Rowell, who has been one of our lawyers since 2006, becoming a partner in 2011. Brooke Haberstock joined us in 2019 after articling in the Lower Mainland.
